"[the abject] is simply a frontier, a repulsive gift that the other, having become later ego, drops so that the 'I' does not disappear in it but it finds, in that sublime alienation, a forfeited existence." (Powers of Horror - Julia Kristeva)

The creative expression of parenthood differs massively between the mother and the father. Theories suggest that when a child is born not only the future of that child is created but also the destiny of the mother is sealed, as female psychology creates the division of sexuality for raising the child.

Through performance the work explores the domestic and the maternal. Utilising food as a connection between the internal and the external, the work borrows from Louise Bourgeois 'clothing is the second skin' and Melanie Klein's theories on the expelling of the mother. An abundant focus on the outer body conception is created by the filling and uniting of the materials. The altering mind set involved in becoming the mother manipulates the notion of autobiography within the wider self.
